It's blogging 101, but are you aware of the consequences of choosing the wrong topic for your blog?
Here's the story: when I first decided to start a blog I was told that you need to find a topic that you are interested in and start writing about it. In fact, that's what I did. And guess what? It was a miserable failure. Here's The Bottom Line: Choosing a topic you're interested in is a good idea as long as you take a few things into consideration.

First of all, you have to choose the topics you're interested in. However, instead of selecting, only one topic makes a list of all the topics you're interested in. Make sure you end up with a list of at least 5 and preferably more than 10 topics that interest you. It is imperative that you care about the topic, especially if this is your first blog. If it's something you don't have a passion for at all writing a blog post it will be a very quick task.
Secondly, you need to make sure that there is a potential market among your listed topics. There's no point in starting a blog if you're the only one in the world interested in the topic.
If it's your first time, I recommend keeping market research as simple as possible. Just enter your topic into Google and check to see if there are any sponsored Google AdSense ads right under the search field and along the right side of the page. If there is a lot of results in this place chances are that there is a market in your topic.
On the other hand, if they are many ads may be an indication that the competition revolves around a fierce topic. That may not be a bad thing! Competition means no money! However, you may want to start with a topic that has some ads, but not too many. This way you know there is a market, but the competition is not too big.
That is the perfect scenario when you are trying to build a successful, money-making blog for the first time. There is a lot more than you can do when you choose a topic for your blog, but if you follow the outlined method you will be able to pass blogging 101 when it comes to selecting topics for your blog.
